Wildflower identification

Monday 21st June 2021

We attended the wildflower identification course Meadow plant identification - Cotswolds National Landscape (cotswoldsaonb.org.uk) today. It was held at Whittington Lodge Farm where there is a meadow that was part of the government set aside scheme in 1995 and over time has turned itself into the most wonderful wildflower meadow. The course was really well run and helped to reinforce the identification and the naming of the plants. In fact plants are not too hard to identify when they are flowering - its when you only have the leaves that it gets really hard! Plantlife have a great easy spotter guide Plantlife :: Spotter Sheets that shows the most common plants flowering in any month. I am sure I will forget much of what I learnt but the instructor was clear that if we can remember 5 from today and then start to build on that we are doing well - I think I can do that. Do take a look at the photos that I took.

There were also lots of hares in the fields - amazing animals!
