What's the definition of a lake?
Tuesday 5th January 2021
Lockdown again - which means no going back to university any time soon - all lectures online for the next few months! Also all volunteering is cancelled. Its disappointing but it has to be done and I do believe that by summer things will be better!
I was listening to Farming Today - catching up on the last few days - I cant recommend it highly enough BBC Radio 4 - Farming Today - Downloads. It is all recorded so you can catch up on what you are interested in. It was an interview with Jonathan Thompson who bought 16 acres in Wiltshire in 2014 and is turning it into a nature reserve through rewilding. Underhill Wood Nature Reserve - amazing to be doing so much for wildlife conservation - just shows what can be done even in fairly small places. Anyway he has created a lake and gave the definition of a lake as a body of water that a swan can take off in - hence the photo! If you have seen them take off it is a lengthy and ungainly process! I cant actually find this anywhere as an official definition but I really like it so lets go with it!
