Volunteering back on!
Sunday 6th December 2020
On Saturday I joined the Holt Copse volunteers for the morning. We spent the time cutting down brambles and turning a dead tree into a dead hedge! I talked to Colin one of the organisers about their management plan - it hasnt been updated for about 8 years and really needs to be done. In fact it is mostly OK - it does focus on the woodland and coppicing - which is not a bad thing. However I think there is more that can be added around wildlife - bird and bat surveys would be a good start and more focus on the conservation of some of the woodland wildflowers that are there. I will probably use compartment 1 and 2 as my assignment for university and then over time we can update the rest.
We went for a walk this morning up to Fox Hill and then over to Coombe wood - saw this beautiful clematis in a garden at Coombe wood - lovely to see the colour in winter - it really stood out.
