Voltaire's Wood
Friday 9th July 2021
Today we went over to Voltaire's Wood to deliver some paperwork for a course running on Saturday. Voltaire's Wood (voltaireswood.com) Its a hundred acres of woodland on the side of a valley near Stroud. Its called Voltaire's wood after the Hungarian Vizsla - the family dog - you can see a picture of him on the website. He is gorgeous and when I finally get a dog I would like one like him!!
We went up into the wood to take a look at the area that Ed coppiced last year. He built a makeshift deer fence around the area which seems to have been really successful. You can see the good regrowth on this stool (photo courtesy of Ed) and most of them looked like this. The fence will be left around the area for a year or so to give the new shoots a chance and then moved on to another area.
In a few weeks they will be scything the meadow here and hopefully I will get a chance to join them.
