Virtual learning!

Wednesday 9th December 2020

This week we have online learning only and one of the lecturers arranged for a ranger at Crickley Hill part of Gloucester Wildlife Trust to make a virtual tour of the area for us. What an amazing job he did - about 50 short videos (between 15sec and 3 mins) taking us around and explaining what he does and why. They have some interesting problems there - its very popular - about 200,000 people visit a year so one of the only Wildlife trust sites that actually makes any money! But that makes it more difficult for conservation, the public walk where they shouldnt! For example I hadnt realised how destructive the dens that you see in woods everywhere are for wildlife conservation. He talked about what he does to persuade people to do the right thing! They also have an adder sanctuary there and as he was filming he came across a baby adder - actually really cute! Great that people in the conservation business are prepared to put the time in to help us while we cant visit these sites in person.
