Seagull rescue

Saturday 22md June 2024

I had to go to Herstmonceaux Observatory in the morning to help set up for a fair there. I have always wanted to go and it is a lovely place. The exhibitions are great and they have good outdoor play areas for children. I think it is really for children over about 6 but you could stay all day - we will have to bring them when they are a bit older. Tom came over to pick up Robin and mum so I went straight round to Toms house at lunch time to find them all having a good time! They went to the Saturday market in Hassocks which apparently is very good and bought things for lunch plus some gin and chocolate! We had a lovely afternoon there and Granny Pat had a great time with Libby and Freya! When we got home later mum needed a rest so we went out into the back garden to sit down and noticed that two seagulls were making a terrible noise on our roof. After about 5 minutes of this I decided to go upstairs and see what the problem was. Their baby had fallen out of the nest and into the gutter on our bathroom! It could not escape and was in the blazing heat. Small panic then I called the local wildlife rescue service, they cant take baby seagulls (not enough facilities) but they could try and get it back on the nest! Half and hour later and the ambulance turned up. Two lovely people tried very hard to sort him out. Eventually they caught him in a net, took him through the house to the upstairs window and catapulted him onto the flat roof. The noise stopped so we hope it is OK!! Great work by the wildlife rescue team.
