Morecombe

We ate lots for breakfast! Then had a look round the museums in the docks in Liverpool. We went to the Maritime museum and the museum of Liverpool. It’s difficult now to imagine how important Liverpool was up until just after the Second World War. It was the port that connected us with America and Africa. Millions of people left from here for new lives abroad. It was key to the slave trade. And a key port during both world wars. So much history. Then the containerisation of ships cargo came along and all the work disappeared within a few years.
Then off we went to Morecambe our next stop. There’s not much here but a beautiful Beach. We did find the Eric Morecombe statues which was unveiled by the Queen! And Robin found a book he wanted in a very strange second hand book shop. And this good mural on the wall. That’s about it!
But we came here to stay in the Midland Hotel which is amazing! Built in the early 30s it has a Ravillious mural in the cocktail bar( it has been repainted as it didn’t survive long but it is still great). We had a room with a large balcony overlooking the sea. In the evening we sat on the balcony for ages, it’s so beautiful.
