Lime mortar
Wednesday 30th June 2021
Over to the barn today to pick up some of the equipment needed for a lime mortar course running this week. Lime mortar has been used in buildings for over 6000 years, since the Egyptians who used it to plaster the pyramids! Nowadays it is mainly used for conserving and restoring old stone or brick buildings.
We took the equipment up to the barn on Leckhampton hill - past blue fields of linseed, the flowers have just started coming out this week and the fields look quite amazing.
There is a great setup at the barn for the student to practice on the easels to start with and then on some of the old barn buildings - great location for it! They also run stone carving courses there so I took a small piece of stone to give it a go at home!
