Food waste

Thursday 14th January 2021

One of our more useful New Years resolutions was to eat less meat and cut our food waste in 2021. Both of these measures are needed globally for the world to reach a net zero carbon target. We are already doing better on the less food waste - we managed to use a whole bag of beansprouts up - dont think we have ever managed that before! We always eat leftovers the next day so that's all good. We had some left over double cream - so we used that for White Russian cocktails - might have to have another one tomorrow to finish it off - not such a bad New Years resolution!

Good news on the wildlife conservation front. The whole of the Cotswold Water Park - which is 177 lakes and 2000 hectares was designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) on 8th January this year. The SSSI designation means the park and its wildlife have legal protection under the Wildlife and Countryside Act, so that Natural England must be consulted on any new proposals that could significantly affect the wildlife interest. This is great - there are holiday homes and business on some of the lakes - making it all an SSSI ensures that these can be managed for nature rather than just for profit.
