Evening safari

Thursday 9th September 2021

We went on the evening safari at Knepp - which effectively means walking round the estate with a guide trying to spot as much wildlife as possible. Things started very well - we were still outside the estate when we saw the stork on his nest nearby. Storks are being reintroduced in Knepp - this year they had about 25 chicks at Knepp. All the chicks have fledged and left but some of the adults haven't migrated yet. The Cotswold Wildelife Park is also breeding storks and releasing them at Knepp - White Stork Project. They really are amazing to see.

The other interesting thin we saw was this wasp spider - I have never seen one before, once it was pointed out to us it was really obvious. It disguises itself as a wasp to escape predators. They were first recorded in England in 1920 and are now spreading further north - climate change impact!

It was a really informative time and well worth going on if you are in the area.
