CWP volunteering
Sunday 13 December 2020
Today was volunteering for the first time with the Cotswold Water Park Trust. Forecast was absolutely miserable - I was not sure it was a good idea but I put on the waterproof trousers and set off. I have a book which calls waterproof trouser 'magic trousers' - absolutely true!
What an amazing day! We worked from 10 til 3 - and luckily it didn't rain too much. We cut down Barbery bushes to help the Barbery carpet moth - they seem to prefer the fresh new shoots. Then onto the willow - which in the water park is the equivalent of brambles in the woods I discovered And we had a great time - Kieran the ranger talked a lot about the park and the wildlife and conservation that they are doing. Its so important to be able to engage with the public and volunteers and Kieran did a great job! The picture shows an area where they allow bird ringers to catch birds - its an area where the public aren't allowed so good to take a look around - not a great day for bird spotting though. Finished there and then went back to Wokingham, managed to get back in time for the Broad Street Tavern - walked in at 530 as they were closing - great to have a local pub so close!
