Crossness

One of the reasons that mum came to see us was because we had tickets for the Crossness Pumping station steaming day in east London. We drove there in the morning. I was a bit worried about whether the walking would be too much for mum but we discovered that there is a little steam train which runs from the parking to the pumping station - it was amazing!! A good start tot the day. The pumping station itself is a Victorian masterpiece, they have restored about a quarter of it - only one of the engines actually works and there are four of them, but they have done an amazing job. There is also a good exhibition about the history of sewers in London (more interesting than it might seem!). Also pictured is the type of bench that I want in our garden! Back on the steam train then mum took the Elizabeth line straight back to Reading - great day was had by all!
