Cotswolds Way
Tuesday 29th June 2021
The Cotswolds Way was conceived over 50 years ago and was inaugurated as a National Trail in 2007. It is over 100 miles long and runs from Chipping Campden to Bath. In September this year there is a 50th anniversary celebration planned ( a year late due to Covid!). It will consist of a relay walk for 7 days finishing in Chipping Campden on Sunday 19th September.
Today I spent time with Becky who is responsible for Trails and Access as well as the volunteers. Apparently when she joined the AONB there were 4 people responsible for the Cotswold Way - funding was reduced and reduced and now it is just part of her job. Everyone understands how important access to nature is for people's wellbeing (I can quote peer reviewed academic papers if you want them!) - but the government doesn't have the money to support it. I am helping Becky put together some photos into a presentation that will be run on that Sunday in the background. There are so many photos! And they show the huge contribution that the volunteers and ramblers have made over the years to keeping the Cotswold Way in a good condition - these things don't happen by themselves!! Another really good day at Cotswolds AONB | The Cotswolds | Cotswold | Cotswolds.
