Beaver analog dam
Wednesday 9th February 2022
Today we went over to Charlbury to join the volunteer group creating the first beaver analog dam in the Wigwell nature reserve. Its what I would call a leaky dam - using wooden posts in the ground then weaving thinner sticks amongst them and packing it with mud and other twigs. It was very effective and you can see the pond starting to build and the change in water levels almost immediately. The plan is to build another about 4 upstream of this - see how it works and them maybe add more later. This is being done to make a better habitat for wildlife rather than to stop any flooding. Its a really u\interesting project.
