Assignments

Typical student desk! What a mess. I feel very lucky to have my university work to do - even in lockdown the days go so quickly as I work on the assignments and learn so much!

Today I was working on the management plan for part of Holt Copse. This time I am using Digimaps for the maps - I am getting better but it it still very painful I could do with an expert to show me a few tips. Holt Copse is an Ancient Semi Natural Woodland (ASNW), a Local Nature Reserve and also a Local Wildlife Site - these are all legal conservation designations but only the Local Nature Reserve really has any useful legislation. I did find a great document by the Forestry Commission WOODLAND GUIDE 3.repro (publishing.service.gov.uk) which explains what ASNW are and what management they expect to be taking place for wildlife conservation. I also put in a data request to the Thames Valley Environmental Records Centre - they hold all the information on the Wildlife Sites and their current conservation status - I have to say its not easy information to get - and I think it should be much more accessible. I will let you know what turns up!
